How to Hire a Facebook Ads Expert: 10 Questions to Ask Before You Pay Anyone

If you want to hire a Facebook ads expert, you're probably comparing a marketplace profile, an agency pitch and a friend's recommendation, and none of them tell you much. I'm Aditya, a solo Meta Ads and Google Ads consultant. I've managed 85 ad accounts and ₹86.0L (~$103K) of spend, so I've been on the other side of this decision many times.

Here is what I'd want to know if I were the owner writing the cheque.

What does a Facebook ads specialist do?

A Facebook ads specialist plans, builds and runs your paid campaigns on Facebook and Instagram, then reports on what they produced. That covers the offer and audience, the ad creative and copy, the lead form or landing page, daily optimisation, and a plain monthly report.

A good one also tells you when ads are the wrong tool. If your phone is never answered or your website takes eight seconds to load, no campaign fixes that. I wrote about those problems in why your Facebook ads are not working.

If you search "Facebook ads expert near me", you'll see local agencies. For most ad accounts, location doesn't matter. I work with owners in the US, UK, UAE, Australia and Singapore remotely, and day-to-day runs over WhatsApp and email. What matters is whether the person has run accounts like yours.

What should a Facebook ads expert show me before I hire them?

They should show you real results with real numbers, including the ones that didn't work. Ask for case studies with spend, cost per result and the time period. Be wary of screenshots with no dates and "300% growth" claims with no spend attached.

On my results page I publish portfolio totals: 85 ad accounts, ₹86.0L (~$103K) spend managed, and 72,837 leads and conversions. One education client, for example, got 2,766 leads at ₹34 (~$0.40) each. I also publish campaigns I've had to stop.

Also ask them to describe an account they'd turn down, and why. Someone who says yes to everything is selling, not diagnosing.

Ask to see the dashboard, not a polished slide.

Who should own my ad account?

You should. The ad account and the Business Manager must sit under your business, with the expert added as a partner or admin. If an agency creates the account under their own Business Manager, they can lock you out of your own campaign history, pixel data and audiences if you part ways.

This is the single most important question for an overseas owner, because it's harder to chase someone across time zones. I always work inside the client's own account, so you can see every rupee or dollar of spend and revoke my access any time.

What results should I expect in the first 90 days?

Expect a testing period first, results second. A sensible rhythm looks like this:

  1. Weeks 1-2: audit, tracking set up, offer and creative agreed, campaigns live.
  2. Weeks 3-6: Meta finishes learning, I cut weak ads and test new ones.
  3. Weeks 7-12: the cost per lead or sale settles and I scale what works.

Anyone who promises a fixed number of leads or a guaranteed return in week one is guessing. The numbers depend on your offer, your market and your budget, and a good expert says so.

What I can point to are results on the site: a skin clinic owner in Jaipur saw 78% more walk-ins. That was one clinic's result, not a promise for your business.

10 questions to ask before you pay anyone

  1. Which businesses like mine have you run ads for, and what were the numbers?
  2. Will my ad account stay in my name and Business Manager?
  3. What will I get in each report, and how often?
  4. How do we communicate, and what are your working hours in my time zone?
  5. What is your fee, and is ad spend billed separately?
  6. What do you need from me: photos, offers, someone to answer leads?
  7. What will you do in the first 30 days?
  8. How will we judge whether it's working, and by when?
  9. What's the notice period if I want to stop?
  10. Can I speak to a past client?

Write their answers down and compare. The honest answers are usually specific and a bit unglamorous.

Hiring across time zones

I'm based in India and work with owners overseas. In practice that means a written report on a set schedule, day-to-day messages over WhatsApp and email, and any urgent change flagged straight away. So far I've run two Google Ads projects for overseas clients, in Ontario and for a UK film production company, and I'm now looking for more direct clients in the US, UK, UAE, Australia and Singapore.

If you want a specialist who shows their numbers and lets you keep your account, you can hire a Facebook ads expert in me. Start by looking at the results, then get in touch with your business, your budget and what you've tried so far. I'll tell you honestly whether ads make sense yet.

Want me to look at your ads?

Tell me your business, your market and what isn't working. I reply personally, usually on WhatsApp or email. I work with small businesses in the US, UK, UAE, Australia and Singapore.
